Show and Tell – Part I: My gore-tex trousers

I’ve had quite a bit of feedback on my last post about the outdoor clothing/equipment dilemma, so good to hear that I’m not alone!

With all the depressing stuff going on in the world I think it would be nice to talk about the good things for a change and plan to showcase items, myself and my outdoor women friends purchased, that were spot on and are precious to us: The harness that fits both on waist and legs, the boots that are comfortable and functional, or the jacket with a perfect cut but also large enough hood to house a helmet. Maybe even in a colour of our choice! I’m curious already what we will get to see, and maybe it can help others to find their fav gear. Have you got something to show and tell? DM me, please!

I make a start by presenting my waterproof breathable gore-tex hard shell trousers from Norrona (Falketind, Model 3313-14). I bought them in 2019 of eBay for £15 (they had come out in the winter season 2016 for the price of around £300). With second hand gore-tex it’s always a bit hit and miss, you have to rely on the seller’s honesty as you just can’t see if they are still waterproof. These trousers were, and not only that: They have ¾ side zips, so you can put them on quickly even with big boots, and the zip opens from both sides so you can let some air in if it gets hot. I love the 20-18cm thigh pocket, plenty of space for phone and cereal bars. The back goes up high enough to prevent jumpers from slipping out (soo annoying when it’s cold and wet), and there are Velcro straps to adjust the waist and also loops for a belt. The cut allows super flexibility on crutch and knees, so you can comfortably climb in them. The lower leg is tight enough and comes with a gaiter hook and a reinforced inside leg for crampon use.

I’ve never done winter stuff though, it was supposed to happen this winter, I had bought crampons and all. Then things took a different turn, but time will come and I am defo ready for it with those trousers!
